Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians Announces 2018 Board of Directors

Dr. David Gilchrist to lead as President in 2018

(Boston, MA) April 3, 2018 – The Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians (MassAFP) is pleased to announce that David Gilchrist, MD, MBA, FAAFP, CPE of Holden, MA, a Physician at Hahnemann Family Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, will serve as this year's President. The induction of officers took place at the MassAFP's Annual Meeting at noon on March 23, 2018 at the Taj Hotel, Boston. MassAFP represents over 2,000 dedicated family physicians, residents, and medical students throughout the Commonwealth.

Dr. David Gilchrist joins 4 Massachusetts family physician officers in leading the MassAFP's 2017 strategic initiatives. The other officers include:
• Board Chair: Flora Sadri-Azarbayejani, DO, FAAFP, of Northfield
• President Elect: Jennifer Sparks MD, FAAFP, of Cambridge
• Vice President: Pablo Hernandez-Itriago, MD, FAAFP, of Millbury
• Treasurer: Michele Parker, MD, FAAFP, of Hubbardston

New Board members joining other MassAFP board leaders in 2018 include:
• Deborah Erlich, MD, FAAFP, of Chestnut Hill
• Michael Richardson, MD, of Cambridge
• Dennis Dimitri, MD, FAAFP, of Worcester
• Tom Hines, MD, of Arlington
• Joseph Gravel, MD, FAAFP, of North Reading
• Kami Phillips, MD, of Gardner

"Our new leaders exemplify the dedication and strength of family physicians in Massachusetts," said executive director Becky Wimmer. "Family physicians provide primary health care for thousands of Massachusetts residents. Their long-standing relationships with patients and their families result in higher quality, more affordable health care and longer life expectancies. Our newly elected leaders uphold a sincere commitment to guiding our Academy's advocacy and educational efforts on behalf of our patients. I am delighted to be working with this enthusiastic and diverse group of colleagues as executive director."

Duties of new officers and board members will include oversight of the Academy's 2018 strategic plan, focusing primarily on promoting family medicine advocacy, nurturing and developing physician leadership, fostering resiliency in family medicine workforce, and promoting practice transformation and value based payment reform.


The Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians was established in 1948 and represents the interests of over 2,000 members.
