MassAFP is pleased to offer the 2026-2027 Appetizer Series of virtual CME's leading up to our 2027 Annual Meeting.

Please join us for a CME focused on family physician-led policy advocacy focused on the successful passage of primary care reform bills in the Massachsuetts House and Senate.

Wayne Altman, MD, FAAFP, MassAFP's President-Elect and Co-Chair of our Legislative Committee will lead this session.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the evolution of Massachusetts' eight-year effort to address the primary care crisis through comprehensive state legislation.

2. Identify the key policy levers needed to move primary care from a chronically underfunded component of the health care system to a central organizing principle—including investment, payment reform, workforce development, access, and accountability.

3. Analyze the lessons learned from pursuing transformative primary care legislation, including what has made progress possible, where incremental approaches have fallen short, and how diverse stakeholders can build and sustain political momentum for systemic change.

4. Assess what Massachusetts' emerging legislation could accomplish—and what important work will remain—to ensure that increased investment in primary care actually translates into better access, a stronger workforce, improved patient and clinician experience, and a more sustainable health care system.
